Is Ever After really as happy as everyone expected? In a hilarious parody of daytime TV, the host wonders if time truly heals all wounds. They invite Cinderella and her middle-aged ’beauty-impaired’ stepsisters to reconcile with each other after being estranged for 20 years. What about Snow White and the Evil Queen? This hysterical fractured fairy tale has it all: a trash-talking clairvoyant mirror, an unfortunate prince who is turning slowly back into a frog, and even Jiminy Cricket — now an occupational therapist and author of the book “My Life as Your Conscience.”

The musical is punctuated by questions from obnoxious studio audience members and ridiculously funny infomercials for fairy-tale-related products, such as the Practical Princess Crown which doubles as a purse and makeup case. Get ready for some knee-slapping and hand-clapping with great foot-tapping songs like ’Beauty Impaired’ and ’Dainty Do-Gooder’!

For your music audition, please prepare a 30-60 second memorized song that shows off your vocal range as well as your ability to act while singing. Be sure it is something you enjoy singing, and make it fun! You will need to bring an accompaniment track (karaoke tracks to a lot of songs can be found on YouTube). A Bluetooth speaker will be provided. A cappella auditions are permitted but not preferred.

Please bring the completed audition form & conflict calendar to auditions. Audition forms require a parent/guardian signature.

Video auditions must be submitted to hpct.info@gmail.com by 2:00pm, Saturday, January 22, 2022. Videos should include a 30-60 second vocal audition with accompaniment and prepared side of your choice (see the links below). Completed audition form and conflict calendar must be included in your email.

Participation in load-in and strike is mandatory.

There are several different styles of music in this show. Feel free to listen to the music ahead of your audition (it can be found on YouTube by searching “The Ever After: A Musical”), especially if you are auditioning for a specific character. It may help you to choose an audition song in the same style as one of the characters you are auditioning for. Of course, if you are open to any role, any style is perfectly fine!

Styles for specific characters:

Stepsisters: 1960s Rock
Cinderella: 1950s Rock & Roll
Queen: Bluegrass
Snow White: Operatic
Mirror: 1970s Funk
Emmett: Mambo

Once you’ve auditioned with your song, we will have you read part of the script. This is your chance to show off your acting skills and make strong choices through reading. Through hearing you read lines from the show, we will get to see how you interpret characters and how you bring emotion to the lines! There’s no right or wrong way to interpret lines in an audition, so go for it!
